Benchmark’s supportive transitional and sober living program is the foundation of our one-of-a-kind treatment model for young adults with mental health and substance abuse. Founded in 1993, Benchmark is the longest running program specifically designed to meet the individualized needs of young adults and their families throughout the treatment process. Studies show that the longer a young adult remains in a supportive treatment environment, the better their chances are in attaining the skills necessary to maintain their sobriety and mental health, manage their behavior, focus on education & career development and live independently.
The Transitional Living program is more than just the place where our young adults live… it is their support system while they are participating in our exclusive Extended Care Program (Day Treatment and Intensive Outpatient programs). It provides the scaffolding and assistance for their ongoing recovery and well-being so that they can focus on the skills needed for independence.
Benchmark offers a unique structured, supportive and sober environment for young adults. Both of our transitional living homes are located a couple miles from Benchmark’s Outpatient and Learning Center (OPC), making it an easy walk or bike ride. The homes are also located near community resources such as grocery stores, fitness centers, entertainment venues, public transportation, community activities and employment opportunities. Benchmark staff is always on-site on a 24/7 awake basis, providing ongoing support, supervision and some programmatic transportation.
During Phase One, for the initial 30-45 days, the men reside at Cypress House, a collegiate-style residential home with 24/7 awake staff support and supervision. Located in Redland’s historic district, Cypress House was originally built in 1903. The large stately home has been remodeled to provide all of the amenities one could want, yet retains its classic historical charm. Cypress can house up to twelve young adult men, and features beautiful grounds with a sparkling swimming pool and plenty of room for our young men to relax and enjoy the private backyard.
Phase Two and Phase Three clients will transition to Benchmark’s community-based apartments, a resort-style apartment community with luxury amenities such as a swimming pool and spa, state of the art fitness room, clubhouse, game room with pool table, media room, picnic areas and BBQ grills amid lush gardens. Located near bus lines and shopping, the apartments provide easy access to Benchmark’s Outpatient and Learning Center, as well as to local colleges and community services.
The women reside at Magnolia House, which is in a beautiful residential neighborhood, not far from the historic district. This home features cathedral ceilings, spacious rooms, upgraded kitchens and bathrooms and a beautiful pool and serene backyard, and also houses up to 12 young adult women.
Women will continue to reside at Magnolia House throughout their Phase One, Phase Two and Phase Three levels during Extended Care and Transitional living, for approximately 90-120 days.
